A Note to Parents
The Internet and the World Wide Web can take you and your child to many different places. Children’s access to the Internet is the sole responsibility of the parent or guardian. Springfield Public Library cannot be responsible for what you or your child sees or reads on the Internet.
The Internet stations in the Youth Service Department use a filtering system. The purpose of the filters is to prevent children from accessing sites that may be harmful to minors. Internet filters operate to select or de-select Internet sites. They either block keywords, block websites, or do both. Filtering software programs are imprecise, but can be relatively effective in blocking access to sexually explicit and violent websites. Be aware that no filter is fool-proof against accessing sites that you may not want your child to view.
We encourage parents to monitor their children’s use of the Internet. The library does not prohibit children from using the Internet stations in the Adult or Young Adult departments.
